Body Contouring Surgery

Arm reduction

Ageing and weight loss can cause a natural flaccidity of the soft tissues of the arm. This procedure returns the natural contours of your arms.

Summary of the procedure

The excess skin is removed. One scar is hidden in the armpit and the other is along the inside of the arm. The long scar will vary in length depending on the amount of skin that has to be removed.

It is performed under general anaesthetic and your length of stay would be one night.

Postoperative period

After the procedure, the patient awakes with a compression dressing over the area. A compression garment will need to be worn 24/7 for up to four weeks after surgery.

Time off and recovery

Rest for the first five days. You should be able to return to normal light activities after ten days. With full healing you could go swimming after two weeks but leave more strenuous exercise until after four weeks and avoid driving for the first two weeks after the operation.

What you need to be aware of

As with any surgical procedure, there can occasionally be complications; possibly including scars, bleeding, seroma, infection, asymmetry and altered sensation. Occasionally, over time the skin can start to sag again. The chances of any complication can be reduced by observing the postoperative recommendations above. Smoking is also a risk factor. This subject is always fully discussed during your initial consultation.
