Breast augmentation surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic, ensuring you will feel no pain. The procedure generally takes between one and two hours. After your implants have been properly placed and aligned, Anna will close your incisions using absorbable sutures, skin glue and waterproof dressing. You may wake up with draining tubes. Breast augmentation is generally performed as day case or overnight procedure.

After your breast augmentation, patients should take it very easy for a few days. Drains are removed 24-48 hours post-surgery, occasionally they have to stay in longer.

Following your breast augmentation procedure, you will immediately notice changes in the size and shape of your breasts. Recovery is different for everyone. In general, most women are up and around the day after surgery but will need to avoid most of their usual activities for 5 to 7 days. You will probably be advised to wait several weeks before resuming strenuous exercise. It may be weeks or months before you realise the full benefits of your breast augmentation.

Most patients who have had a breast augmentation report that the procedure was much less painful or uncomfortable than anticipated. Post-operative over-the-counter medication is usually enough, but Anna can prescribe stronger pain medication as needed and appropriate.

While most women are able to successfully breastfeed following breast augmentation, others have found it challenging. Anna will discuss this thoroughly with you prior to your surgery.

Patients heal at different rates. Some swelling, bruising and general discomfort is to be expected, but these will relieve within a few weeks. It is important to refrain from too much activity in the beginning, to ensure you heal properly. This means avoiding lifting, twisting, as well as many household chores. Avoid driving for a couple of weeks, please check with your insurance company about any terms and conditions.

Breast Augmentation Post Operative

Immediately after Post Operative- A compression bra will be placed over the breasts to reduce swelling and bruising. It is vital to get adequate rest during the first few days of recovery, and discomfort can be managed with over-the-counter medication. The bra should be worn 24/7 for 4 weeks, only remove your bra to shower.

1 week Post Operative – Most women can return to work and resume their usual routine 7 days after surgery. However, patients should avoid strenuous activity and exercise during this stage of recovery.

2 to 3 weeks Post Operative – Patients can begin to ease back into light physical activity, but they must avoid all chest and upper body exercises.

4 to 6 weeks Post Operative – As long as wounds have fully healed, patients are free to resume all of their regular workout routines, including upper body exercises. Always start gently, increasing gradually.
